Physical Description:
The red crowned amazon parrot has mainly green plumage with red foreheads and crowns. Males and females look similar, though males tend to have brighter red coloring. Adults are about 9-10 inches in length.
Average Lifespan:
Proper care and procedures that should be taken to make red-crowns live up to 20-30 years or more as companion parrots. Their longevity is determined a lot by what they are fed and on the kind of environment they are raised in and the level of health care that their human attendants give them.
Sexing:
Heard when skinned their differences could be barely discerned which makes it hard for an amateur to sex red-crowns. Behavior differences are the best proofs and there can be a need to approach a vet for other determinations.
Origin:
Endemic to the north of South America, red crows prefer their rainforest environment ranging from Colombia down to Brazil. They are widely domesticated as parrots because they are small in size and are generally aggressive.
Loudness:
Red-crowns have relatively loud voice, they make calls and whistles. Their average noise level is acceptable for most home environments as long as the pet gets some interaction and play so it is not bored and starts screaming.
Trainability:
This is true especially if the red-crowns are tamed from a tender age and taken through a rigid training process. They are very wise and may follow simple instruction, perform minor tricks and even be trained to speak with the right encouragement.
Pricing:
Cost should be between $500 to $2800 for a red-crown parrot depending on the age and the time of the year according to your local breeder or pet store. New companion parrot is best sourced by hand-tamed juveniles since they are relatively cheaper than other categories of parrots.
Health Guarantee of Our Birds:
All of our red-crowns pass through our avian vet and what is more, each order is given a health warranty of a minimum of five days. However, if there is any disease detected within the first one week, all that entails this disease check up will be provided by us.
Bird Guarantee only lasts for the first five days:
The above health guarantee covers our product for 5 days from the time the product is delivered to the consumer. It should also be stressed that after this period one cannot complain for health issues or costs the new owner’s dog may have.
Lifetime Guarantee on our Birds:
Although all our birds are healthy and of high quality we do not have the “lifetime” guarantee. Any care given to the Parrot and the conditions that the birds are exposed to once they leave our facility are some aspects that the personnel of this facility has no control over. We strive to kick the customers off on the right footing for the critical first days. Feel free to ask if there is anything else you would like me to help with or explain.
FAQs about Red crowned Amazon Parrots
Q: What size cage do they need?
Red-crowns require a large cage, at least 24″ x 24″ of floor space with plenty of vertical space. The bigger the better.
Q: What is their temperament like?
Red-crowns are generally friendly, playful parrots. With proper socialization from an early age they can bond closely to their human caregiver.
Q: How noisy are they?
They have moderate volume calls and whistles. A bored red-crown may scream but with plenty of attention, toys and foraging they usually aren’t excessively loud.
Q: What do they eat?
A pellet-based diet with fresh fruits and veggies is best. Avoid avocado, chocolate and salty foods. A varied diet keeps them healthy and entertained.
Q: How long do they live?
With excellent care, red-crowns can live 20-30+ years in captivity. Their lifespan depends on factors like diet, habitat and preventative healthcare.
Q: Are they cuddly?
Some individuals may enjoy gentle petting but red-crowns are not naturally cuddly parrots. With positive reinforcement training, they can learn to step up for shoulder time.
Q: How much do they cost?
Expect to pay $500-800 depending on the age and source. Juveniles are most affordable but require daily socialization for tameness. Hand-fed babies cost a bit more.
Q: What is the return policy?
We guarantee birds for 5 days only. After that, conditions are out of our control. Please reach out with any other questions! Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition to their new home.
